Hikari sorede Yami no Ookisa

Chaputa-ichi

Two boys ran the track at school, racing each other, out in the lead of all the other students.  One’s long hair was tied back into a ponytail and had a white headband around his head that held back little of his bangs.  The other boy behind him had short tousled hair.  Both had dark violet hair, their eyes the same shade of blue, and were wearing the same kind of P.E. uniform consisting of a white tank top and blue shorts.  It was quite obvious that they were twins.

“Hey, Kouichi-niisan!!  You slowing down?” the boy with the ponytail yelled behind him at his older twin.

“Be… quiet… you’re… the… one… who takes…. Karate… Kouji-ototo…” Kouichi panted as he tried to keep up with his younger twin.

Kouji smirked as he came to the bend of the track.  He felt energetic today, adrenaline pumping through his veins.  He felt as light as the wind, his feet flying across the ground, his ponytail being blown back by the breeze in his face.  The sun beat down onto the track, warming it and all the other students that were running.

The peacefulness wasn’t going to last however.  The wind then began whipping up, getting stronger with each passing second.  The sky became cloudy and gloomy.  Kouichi used this time to catch up to Kouji, who had slowed a bit.  But then, a quick, unexpected gust blew Kouji’s out from under him.

     “Kouji-ototo!!”  Kouichi yelled.

Kouji fell, but not onto the hard concrete.  A hole opened up underneath Kouji and he was pulled in, well, at least that was what Kouichi saw.  Kouji yelled as he fell headfirst into the hole.

“No!!  Kouji!!” Kouichi shouted, running straight for the hole in the concrete.

But then, a black hand shot up from the ground near Kouichi, grabbing onto the older twin’s leg.  Kouichi fell facedown on the track underneath him, scratching and bruising himself.  Another hole opened up, this time under him, and he fell into the darkness.

“Let me go!!” Kouichi yelled, trying to kick the hand that had a firm grip on his ankle.

He continued to struggle as he went down.  Although, the air got thinner as he plunged further and further into the shadows.  The boy began to suffocate; darkness clouding his vision until he finally stopped fighting and blacked out.

Back on the surface, the wind died down and the sky became clear yet again, as though nothing had happened.  As the other boys and girls could see though, something had happened.  Kouji’s and Kouichi’s bodies lay on the track, unmoving.  Each was taking in ragged breaths.  Kouji lay there with his eyes open, lifeless and dull, not responsive.

A girl ran over to the bodies as the other students were either panicking or wondering what was going on.  The girl had a white shirt on and black shorts.  Her short silky black hair swaying as she ran.  The girl got down onto her knees beside Kouji and shook him a bit, in hopes that he would wake.

“Kouji-kun!  Kouji-kun!  Wake up!” the girl said, concern in her voice.  But Kouji did not wake.  “No…  It can’t be…"
